St George

The river vegetation and bird life all combined to make this a real highlight to our visit to St George. The perfectly calm conditions that day provided stunning mirror images of trees and sky giving the extraordinary sensation of floating in space rather than on a river.

The Lake Quilpie is just a short drive (4km) from downtown Quilpie with easy access for conventional vehicles, motorhomes, caravans and touring coaches. Taking pride-of-place on the property is Lake Houdraman, a beautiful expanse of water set amongst shady gum trees. Swim, fish or ride your pushbike around the lake. The Unique Egg

St George

Liz Hill 0 1425

In an unassuming small low set brick building in the main street of town, you will find the humble emu egg carved into a stunning, illuminated piece of art at the Unique Egg. Local character and artisan Steve Margaritis - or 'Stavros' as we know him - has carved an amazing variety of patterns and scenes on each egg and illuminated them. This is the world's only display of hand carved, illuminated emu eggs, which have been gifted as far as the White House!
